I’ve been making use of the same strategies in learning Japanese. I reckon the down time, the in-between moments, are just as important as the dedicated study time when it comes to learning a second language. Thanks for pointing it out.

I’ll try and find some online resources on grammar. However, I don’t think any of them would be as good as what you can get from a book. I like English Grammar in Use (the publisher is Cambridge University Press). It’s blue and you can find it at Kinokuniya (Ngee Ann City, Orchard Road).
As for sentence structures, we look at sentence structures everyday in class, especially when we do new grammar I hope you don’t think there are only a few simple sentence structures in English! There are so many it would be impossible to summarise them – it would take a very thick book and years of study.
Pay more attention to sentence structures when you read or listen. Not knowing the correct structure in English is no excuse for translating from Chinese – you know by now that Chinese and English are very different. Keep your structure simple if you’re not sure.
